The Devil Inside
no big names attached
January 6, 2012

In 1989 Maria Rossi murders 3 people while she is be exorcised and is institutionalized. In 2009 her daughter Isabella, enlists a pastor/ scientist to attempt to help her Mother, believing that she may someday herself be victim of demonic possession.

Why we want to see it: I think Exorcism is the scariest premise in horror- I am particularly scared by the idea of demonic possession and the occult. The trailer for this film has been floating around for awhile it looks pretty darn creepy.

Watch These to Hold you Over: Exorcism (1973), The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005), The Last Exorcism (2010), The Rite (2011).

Underworld Awakenings (3D)
Kate Beckinsale
January 20, 2012

Taking place six months after Underworld: Evolution, Selena is captured by humans. She awakes to discover that the existence of Vampires and Lycans has become global knowledge. A war between humans and the immortals has began.

Why we want to see it: I have said it before that the underworld films do have a unique cinematographic quality. If any franchise was deserving of a 3D sequel i’d consider Underworld a good contender.

Watch These to Hold you Over: Underworld (2003), Underworld: Evolution (2006)

See the trailer:

The Cabin In the Woods
Joss Whedon, Drew Goddard
April 13, 2012

A group of friends retreat to a desolate cabin for a weekend of fun and find themselves participating in a game of “cat & mouse” with a supernatural force.

Why we want to see it: Have you not seen the trailer! This thing looks like a gnarly, monster movie/ torture film hybrid. Too much fun stuff going on to resist seeing this film.

Watch these to hold you over: Cabin Fever (2002), Cloverfield (2008),

See the trailer:

Dark Shadows
Tim Burton, Johnny Depp
May 12, 2012

In 1752 Barnabas, a wealthy playboy, was turned into a vampire by a love scorned witch. In 1972 he arises, to find his manor occupied by his dysfunctional descendants.

Why we want to see it: This will of course probably be one of the quirkiest films of the year- i am not sure if its suppose to be a horror/comedy or if it is gonna be played out with completely serious angling. Either way Tim Burton rarely disappoints me and i always look forward to his pairings with Depp.

Watch this to hold you over: Interview with a Vampire (1994), Dracula Dead and Loving it (1995), Sweeney Todd (2007)

Prometheus
Ridley Scott, Guy Pearce, Charlize Theron
June 8,2012

The crew of a space exploration vessel “Prometheus” encounter an advanced civilization of extraterrestrials while searching for the origins of human life.

Why we want to see it: This movie was suppose to be my coveted Alien prequel, but i guess Ridley Scott went in a different direction with this “stand alone” semi sequel. I guess we will just have to see what this is all about, I am hoping for some sort of “Aliens” tie-in, maybe that is just wishful thinking.

Watch this to hold you over: Alien (1979), Aliens (1986),

Watch The trailer:

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter (3D)
Tim Burton
June 22, 2012

When president lincoln’s mother is killed by a blood thirsty vampire, he adds a new skill set to his resume: Vampire slayer, and hunter of supernatural beings.

Why we want to see it: The premise is just bizarre! We like weirdo-geek fests like this movie is bound to be.

Watch this to hold you over: Zombieland (2009),

The Apparition
Ashley Greene, Sebastian Stan
August 24, 2012

Young couple Kelly and Ben, discover their home is being haunted by a frightening appartion, that was conjured during a parapsychology experiment.

Why we want to see it: This movie may also be the most anticipated horror flop of the year, but we will probably catch it at the cheapy movie theatre and relish in every awful minute. Maybe if your lucky I will write a nifty review.

Watch This to hold you over: The Amityville Horror (2005), Haunting in Conneticut (2009)

No Trailer or Poster Available

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D
October 5, 2012

A young girl travels to texas to collect an inheritance she knows little about; an Encounter with the chainsaw yielding Leatherface.

Why we want to see it: Do I even have to explain myself to you???? *insert chainsaw noises*
Watch This to hold you over: Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003)

Note:

*2012, also holds the rumoured release of Paranormal Activity 4 and Halloween 3D. Possibly another Saw flick, and Final Destination. We will see if these films manifest themselves in the coming months.

Well Dark Shadows is directed by Tim Burton and should be worth a look, I'm trying to remember the last time he made a film without Johnny Depp... Mars Attacks?

Is Prometheus horror or sci-fi? Scary sci-fi? Are there any 'Aliens' in this one? It's in the same universe. Prometheus is probably my most anticipated film of the year, it's been 30 years since Ridley's last sci-fi film.

Okay I'm not interested in chainsaws or cabins in the wood and the last good possession film was made decades ago.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter is a great title for a film. The director of Nightwatch is doing that one.

And I'm looking forward to seeing Kate Beckinsale in her latex catsuit again. :)

Vote Up.

Okay, this i a really cool hub. I had no idea that Johnny Depp did a remake of Dark Shadows. I got excited when I read it on your hub. I grew up watching this on television. Thanks for sharing this.

I'm super excited for THE CABIN IN THE WOODS (Joss Whedon is amazing), DARK SHADOWS (like you said, Tim Burton and Johnny Depp), and ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER (Tim Burton again!). Thanks for this awesome list!
