Loving Your Big Boobies
Boob Drama
By Brandie Tschauner
If your anything like me, you may have trouble embracing your well endowed chest. Despite the philosophy floating around that “bigger is better”, there are some clear downsides to have a DD+ sized set of ladies. I roll my eyes at the amount of times I heard my less fortunate girlfriends complain about their breast size- usually I just smile and nod, they will never understand the troubles that these suckers cause me.
Despite what is implied by the media and fashion industry, women with large breasts are actually faced with many body image issues that are caused by having being bestowed with “such a gift”. It can be extremely difficult to find luxurious looking lingerie for a fuller figure, women often have to sacrifice fashion for function purchasing whatever they can find that will support their ladies. In addition to this It can be extremely frustrating to sort out all the misconceptions about Bra sizing. Believe it or not the bra manufacturers have been lying to us for a long time about what the different sizes actually look like. Even someone with small or average sized breasts may be wearing the wrong size, it has become quite common for people to simply “settle” for the standard lingerie, a “that’ll do” resignation just to get the job done. However I raise argument to that movement, your breasts deserve better- You deserve better. It is time to get picky about your lingerie.
If your part of the hard to fit category of ladies, big chested with a slim waistline, you probably struggle the most with finding suitable undergarments. I know your pain, I am a 34 FF/ occasional G, and I have more tit then tack let me tell you. For the longest time I would force myself into misfitted standard lingerie store bras, immediately reaching for the biggest size available and praying that it would work for me. The dilemma I often faced was spillage, and popping out. The worst part was lack of support when doing any sort of activity- there was nothing flattering going on. I recollect my darkest hour, where I actually found myself wearing two, yes two!, bras at once in order to get some sort of relief!
I knew in my heart that I was not suffering alone, the popular lingerie stores were not doing me any favours. Did you know that La Senza and Victoria Secret claim that they can fit anyone? A friend of mine who was employed at one of these retailers informed me that at times they were encouraged to mislead women about their sizing in order to make the sale! Additionally, don’t get me started on the poor quality and lack of comfort in design that these stores of this nature market- the marketing technique is quantity over quality- By selling bras that do not hold up for a particularly long time, these stores encourage women to constantly return to replace their favourite bra’s in order to maintain the market. One thing I have realized that when you invest in a great bra, it should last you at least a year depending on frequency of wear.
Finding Your “True Fit”
This shady sales technique certainly does not suit someone who merely wants to own flattering and supportive bras. After awhile it can actually do a number on your self esteem. I know for me I began to feel that my large breasts were the problem. It was very isolating to feel that breasts like mine were unacknowledged and my personal needs went unmet. Even the box sized bras were not designed to work for a fuller figure.
In order to liberate myself, I began to research the philosophies behind bra sizing. Like I stated before, you really cannot trust the sizing system of the large franchise brands. The best way to find your “real” size is to go a specialized bra boutique, if you are lucky there will be one located in your area. Fittings are generally free of charge, and you can try on some different sizes and get a feel for what a truly well fitted bra can do for you. This may sound cheesy, but it is actually a life changing experience.
Receiving a professional bra fitting is a good start. Any speciality bra store should carry a variety of brands that go beyond your standard DD. It is important that you find a store that recognizes sizing beyond the standard A- DD cup. One downside to these stores however, is that they often have an extremely high price point. It is a harsh realization that in order to achieve that “perfect” fit you may have to pay over $100 for one bra.
Have no fear-
I have found plenty of luck searching for larger bra’s online for a reasonable price. In fact, I have had the most success by shopping in European markets, for whatever reason they seem to be much more accommodating to big boobies, on the other side of the pool.
It is only a matter of discovering brands and styles that work for you! Remember being curvy does not mean you are fat. Occasionally that will be the misconception, you may find as the cup size increase the availability of band size lessons. This can mislead you into thinking you require a “plus size” bra, even though you are not overweight.
Keep in mind that even once you have discovered your “true-size” that different styles, and fabrics will still have some differences in their sizing. Sad I know. The upside to this however is that you can discover different brands that work for you. Fortunately when you are shopping in a more specialized market you will find that the “fit” is more consistent within the brand label. This will make shopping for your bra’s online a lot easier. Personally, my two favourite brands are Freya and Fantasie. Both of these offer great styles! That fit perfectly.
Although it seems like a lot of effort to go through in order to accommodate your lady parts, the result is absolutely worth while. You will reap the benefits of better fitting clothing, better posture, less back pain, and high self esteem. Purchasing a truly great bra, will make you feel sexier then ever. Heck!, you may even want to show it off.
You really should not settle or skimp on your bra purchases. Take the time emancipate yourself from the restrictions of standard bra sizing. Consider it a treat to yourself. Remember, that you should be proud of every aspect of your body, and dress it to its full potential. There is no reason you should ever feel like you deserve “less than” because you do not fit into society’s narrow mould of beauty.

Quick Bra Fitting Tips
- Straps should be firm around your body. There should be no need to shorten them the furthest they can go in order to “get lift”. Typically they should fall in the middle of space between your collarbone and mid back.
- The band should not dig in. It should fit secure, but with room to place two fingers behind it.
- Wires should be completely under the breast, supporting them. They should enclose the entire base of the breast.
- The entire breast should be enclosed within in the bra. No over top spillage or dreaded 4 boob.
- The centre between the two cups should lay against your chest, no matter what this is the key to great support and separation.
- You should be able to move freely, try dancing. A great bra will allow natural movement but still be comfortable. You should never have to “re-adjust” the ladies.
( I recommend doing a jump test. If you can do a few jumping jacks and your girls stay in place you’ve got a great bra on!)
